Use Google Fonts
These are good substitutes for the usual Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, Tahoma… <yawn!>
There’s no need to download and install Google Fonts. We artfully place a snippet of code in your site and it will automatically call the font from Google’s servers. These fonts will always display because they are not browser-dependent. If you want to get all fancy, now you can.
There’s another great alternative: Adobe Typekit. These, too, reside on Adobe’s servers, but the client or web designer must be a subscriber to their premium services.
