You Don’t Need Photoshop
Are you tired of hearing that you need to crop a picture and don’t have the software to do so?
Are you embarrassed when you take a bad snapshot and someone says, “Don’t worry, just Photoshop it when you get home.”
Yes, we live in a world where the name of a software product has become a verb–“would you mind Photoshopping this so it’s less greenish? Thanks.”
Easier said than done, even for those of us who DO know how to use the ubiquitous Adobe program. I experience this problem all the time–a client will submit hundreds of photos and then wonder why they don’t look great in an online photo gallery. I have to tell them that —
- The gallery tool won’t automatically crop your pictures…
- All your images are too low-contrast…
- Your photos are too big, i.e. they need to be “optimized” for use on the web to not slow down your site…
But there is good news! Now there’s PicMonkey!
Just go to the site, use your mouse to rollover the “Edit” button at the top of the home page, pull up your picture and go to town!
Don’t get me wrong: I do love Photoshop and use it every day. In fact, I’m a subscriber to the Adobe Creative Cloud and think it’s great. The price is reasonable and I always have the latest version at your fingertips.
So Yaaaayy, Adobe! But for those of you who don’t have the time, knowledge or inclination, we are fortunate to have other options out there like PicMonkey!
